5 November, 2009 - National Council (NC) member from Trashigang, Sonam Kinga, was yesterday elected as the new deputy chairperson of NC. The 35-year old NC member was unanimously elected through a secret ballot. Since he was the only candidate for the post, NC members had to vote yes or no. Sonam Kinga replaces Dasho Karma Ura who resigned from the National Council in July this year.
Sonam Kinga is also the chairperson of the good governance committee of the National Council.
