26 December, 2007 - The first parliamentary election is only five days away but observers are yet to see a significant movement of Thimphu residents heading for their villages to vote during the National Council election on December 31.

A Bhutanese refugee who had left for Gujarat, India, for job two months ago has been found dead in mysterious condition in Maharastra of India. Man Bahadur Bhattarai, 51, who had been living at a camp in Sanischhare of Morang, had gone to Gujarat on October 29.

26 December, 2007 - The Royal Bhutan Police did not scour the hills and forests of Paro dzongkhag to catch Gem Dorji, one of the two men who robbed an American trekking group on the night of October 24 and went into hiding.

Security has been tightened along the Indo-Bhutan border in view of the first Parliamentary election in the Himalayan kingdom on December 31. A closed door meeting was held here between the officials of Serpang district of Bhutan and Indian districts of Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baska and Udalguri today.

Southern border to be sealed during NC election

The Bhutan-India border will be sealed for 36 hours during the upcoming National Council election, according to an announcement made yesterday by the Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs.
According to the announcement, the Indo-Bhutan border will be sealed from 6:00 pm on December 30, 2007 to 6:00 am on January 1, 2008 to avoid any law and order problems along the border during the election.

Druk Phuensum Tshogpa supporters in Mongar have withdrawn their complaint against Mongar NC candidate, Pem Tenzin, that he was promoting the People’s Democratic Party during his familiarization tours.
