25 June, 2007 - The National Environment Act
of Bhutan, endorsed by the
National Assembly on June 21, provides a legal framework for the National Environment Commission to carry out its mandate say, commission officials.
The commission has the mandate to guide the country, in a sustainable manner, on environmental cons-ervation and protection, but so far it had no basis on which it could carry it out.
Act will not repeal DYT and GYT Chatrim
25 June, 2007 - The Local Governments Act,
which was enacted by the
National Assembly on June 20, will not repeal the Dzongkhag Yargay Tshogdu (DYT) and Gewog Yargay Tshogchung (GYT) Acts as proposed by the draft Act.

Woman accused of child trafficking
25 June, 2007 - Thimphu police have charged
a non-Bhutanese woman in
connection with what they call a child trafficking case, involving a 16-year-old nonBhutanese girl from Darjeeling, India.
This is the first time a child trafficking case has been forwarded to court, according to police.

Assembly enacts public finance bill

23 June, 2007 - The size of the average
Bhutanese family is getting
smaller.
Bhutanese families were having fewer children and the numbers were likely to shrink even further in the years to come, according to officials of the National Statistical Bureau.
According to the bureau, Bhutanese women in their prime reproductive age were giving birth to fewer children than in the past.
Project coordinator sentenced
23 June, 2007 - After more than one year of
proceedings at the High
Court the former coordinator for the bio-mass briquette project of the national women association of Bhutan (NWAB), was sentenced to six and half years in prison on June 21.

enact the Civil Service Bill, which was discussed earlier this week, according to officials of the Assembly Secretariat.
