Legs and torsos of cows and pigs dangle on a hook. On a bloody table is a skinned goat, stomach cut open, teeth bared. Pieces of meat are stuck on the hands, arms, shirts, and pants of the butcher with the carving knife. Inches away from the table are the hordes of Thimphu residents, their mouths in waters, waiting in line to get their hands on the best meat, which are usually the thighs because it has less fat.

To leap or to look?
15 August, 2007 – One of the advantages that Bhutan has always claimed is that we have the opportunity to learn from the mistakes made by other countries, thus avoiding the same pitfalls. Of course it is not much of an advantage if we do not learn those lessons. And it is a tragedy that we not only repeat those mistakes but we do not learn even from our own mistakes.
Register with party, but vote on your will

Filling up a party registration form is not a binding commitment on a voter to vote for a particular party in the first general election in 2008.
15 August, 2007 – The Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) political party is all set to register today with the Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB).
The party will officially nominate its party president, secretary general and announce its candidates today at a general meeting in Kelki higher secondary school, Thimphu. The party will also declare its vision and mission at the meeting. According to the party spokesperson, Dupthob Rinzin, the party will register with the ECB in the afternoon.

High court upholds verdict on RIM defamation case

After 56 years: Tunnels and wells discovered in Drugyel dzong

14 August, 2007 – Ap Kalay was ten years old when he saw the Paro Drugyel dzong razed to the ground in an inferno in 1951. Since then growing up he had often played in its courtyard and knew pretty much every nook and corner of the dzong. Or so he thought. He was the unofficial caretaker who took pleasure in explaining to visitors the colourful history of the dzong long in ruins but which he worshipped. Nothing, however, had prepared him what came next.
Three months back the Paro dzongkhag had initiated a cleaning campaign at the ruins. It was neglected and was growing into a picnickerÂ’s spot who littered the place with papers, plastics and pet bottles.
